Laura Doyle, Communications Manager for the Ronald McDonald House, visited our Journalism class at the Board of Developmental Disabilities. She educated the class about the wonderful programs that they offer to families of children with illnesses, and the many volunteer opportunities that our students are able to take advantage of.

We had a wonderful turnout at the Warrensville Community Apartments for my “Making Lemonade From Lemons” presentation. 37 seniors learned tools for staying happy, positive and optimistic despite the challenges that aging can sometimes bring. Many thanks to the families who came out for our event to learn about adaptive recreation programs for those with developmental disabilities. We offered yoga classes, games and informative discussions from local community recreation organizations. The event was organized and sponsored by Homewatch CareGivers.

I attended a wonderful all-day conference about the “Person-Centered Care” movement, and how long term care facilities are incorporating ways of treating each person as an individual. This holistic model of care leads to happier residents who lead longer, more fulfilling lives.

Rachel Browner from the Cleveland Institute of Art visited with our Journalism class today at the Board of Developmental Disabilities. The students interviewed Rachel about all of the interesting creative art programs that the students study there.
