12/1/14 – Journalism Field Trip
Our Journalism class from the Board of Developmental Disabilities took a field trip today to the offices of The Heights Observer. They learned everything it takes to publish a newspaper – selecting and editing the articles, laying out the pages, inserting the advertisements, printing and delivering. They also learned how they can submit their own articles to be published.
11/18/14 – Lecture with the Monks
11/26/14 – Tea Ceremony with the Monks
Our Tibetan Buddhist monk friends visited with the Board of Developmental Disabilities toady, and performed an ancient Tea Ceremony for the participants. A bowl and cup is set in the center of a table and tea is gradually poured into the cup until it overflows. In Tibetan Buddhist culture this symbolizes that when we are open to receive, our blessings overflow.
11/17/14 – Journalistic Writing
Our group at The Jennings Center for Older Adults learned how to write research and interview articles. They learned how to gather research information, compile interview questions, conduct an interview, and organize their information. They also learned how to write, proofread and edit their articles. We connected them with a local newspaper so that they could put what they learned into actual practice!
